Item Descriptions
I'm not into big long descriptions so the name Iwata calls some parts and what I call those parts aren't always the same. I stopped calling the same part different names based solely on which model the airbrush happens to be. I realize this could make my parts guide annoying. For the annoyance, I apologize. -
Buy the Whole Head System
Don't buy the individual parts (1A-1D). The head system is hand matched together for the best performance possible. That's the reason you bought a CM isn't it? Well, you can buy just a new CM Crown Cap without having to worry about buying the whole set...but that's the only exception! -
Changing Tip Size
Always change out the entire head system and the needle. -
Removing The Head System Base
It's screwed onto the airbrush pretty good. In fact, I think Iwata hires Sumo wrestlers in the off-season to screw these things on.
Getting it off the first time
- wrap the gripy part with a rubber band
- Grip the base with a pair of standard pliers (the rubber band prevents scarring)
- Grip the airbrush body firmly with your other hand
- Twist in opposite directions. (Remember "righty tighty, lefty loosey" to help you)
- When you screw the base back into the airbrush just finger tighten it and you won't have to go through this again
-
Iwata doesn't sell airbrush bodies
Bodies aren't for sale for one very pertinent reason. They're too expensive. They cost a little less than buying a new airbrush. Their price code is O if you're interested in seeing for yourself... -
Teflon Needle Packing Set
Replaces both the Needle Packing O-Ring and the Needle Packing Screw. Teflon is solvent proof, however it doesn't compress as well, so it will feel different than the standard o-rings. (I actually like the old o-rings better!) -
#6 (Incorrectly called the spring guide)
It annoys me. I know why it exists. It provides a greater distance to unscrew part #9 (the real spring guide). This allows greater control over the amount of tension forcing the trigger back into place. But, but, but...it changes the gender of the airbrush body. Most Iwata airbrush bodies have female back ends for male handles, and somebody had to go and name the silly thing a "spring guide" blah blah blah blah. Mumble, mumble, mumble...I know, you probably don't care, but these are my notes! :p Oh, it's also locked into place with the set screw and coated with a locking compound. You will need some tools (rubber coated tools please!) to unscrew it after unscrewing the set screw. -
There are Three Needles?
Yep. That's right. I know some things Iwata hasn't even put on their parts guides ;) The needle for the CM-C+ is longer. All the different needles are interchangeable, but the I 540 3 will be long in the other three airbrushes and conversely the I 540 1 & 2 will be short in the CM-C+ -
The Set Screw simply holds the "Spring Guide" in place against twisting.
To unscrew the set screw you will need to break the chrome plating. That usually means a vice to hold the airbrush body in place and a good screw driver that fits in that slot. By good, I mean GOOD screwdriver. The cheap ones will bend and strip the screw. -
The Fluid Cup Lid #19B
It's a standard Iwata 1/3 oz fluid cup lid completely compatible and interchangeable with lids from other Iwata C-style airbrushes. -
#28 Handle O-Rings
They come standard with the Pre-set Cut-away Handle. They're also interchangeable with the head cap and handle o-rings on an Eclipse airbrush. (same part number) -
The Iwata Wrench
There aren't many substitutes for this wrench. DO NOT attempt to unscrew the nozzle from the head system base without this tool.
